DESIGN-YOUR-OWN HANDBUILDING CLASS
minimum of 4 sessions and maximum of 5 students

This custom-made class will help you learn basic hand-building techniques at your own pace or with your own group. Each session is geared to the people who attend. Maximum size is 5 people. Minimum number of classes is 4 sessions. Each class session is 2 hours long, including time for glazing and clean-up. Prices include clay, glaze & firing. Below are ideas for possible classes. You may have other ideas. We will focus on one idea at a time, unless your group knows what they want to do and can do it without the help of the teacher. Individuals are always free to create whatever their heart desires. But maybe then you just need Open Studio time!
Each participant will make a teapot and a set of small cups, using slabs and pinch construction.
Each participant will make a clay basket with a handle and use two different techniques to decorate the basket--carving into the clay and/or adding clay designs on top of the basket's surface.
Each participant will make a set of tiles that will be decorated using a variety of carving and/or embossing techniques. Tiles need to dry very slowly to insure that they do not crack, so finished pieces will not be fired for 3-4 weeks after the class.
Each participant will create an animal sculpture, either real or imaginary, using a variety of techniques. Finished pieces will be glazed with realistic and/or bright colors.
Each participant will make at least 2 lidded boxes using hard and/or soft slab techniques. .
Each participant will make a lidded butter dish using hard and/or soft slab techniques. .
Each participant will make a whistle, hopefully one that really works! If time permits, we will add holes and create a simple scale.
Each participant will create a set of cups using slab techniques. Emphasis will be on creating a design that will carry through on all of the items in the set.
Each participant will create a set of bowls using slab techniques. Emphasis will be on creating a design that will carry through on all of the items in the set.
