People keep asking if I made the really big bowl in my kitchen. It was made by Don Miller, one of my first pottery teachers. His bowl is beautiful and we have made many a batch of bread using it!  I decided it's time for me to make a really big bowl myself. We'll see if any of them make it through the firing process.

Here is my new booth display.  Master woodworker John Karlstad made the free standing shelves and they make my work look beautiful!  I set it up in the gym at Pleasant Ridge so that I could have a good booth photo for art fair applications.  Here's hoping I get into a few shows.

The SALE scheduled for last Saturday had to be postponed due to the weather.  It's on for tomorrow!  Prices on pots with slight imperfections and pots that have been around too long are very low--$10 and under.  There are also newer and more "perfect" pots that are 20% off the regular price.  And the new display shelves that my most wonderful husband John created will be on display!  Hope you can make it!  The pots will be up for a few days, so if you can't make it on Saturday, give me a call and we can set up a time for you to visit.

I have been throwing enclosed forms that are then turned into jars when the top is cut off. I have also been changing the form while the pot is still wet. My neighbor Tom said they looked like they belong in the shire with the hobbits. After this one came out of the kiln I think I agree with him.

It's taken me a while, but here are some photos from the last Clay in a Day workshop.  We had a great day and the pieces are still in process!  I will post photos of the finished pieces once they come out of the kiln. Thanks to Desiree, Feliciana and Theresa for a wonderful day!   The next workshop will be in September.  I will be getting ready for some shows in July and August as well as having another summer class for kids.

Pierce Hill Classes UPDATE

2/6/2013

The KIDS CLASSES are going well.  We have been having fun making coiled animals and plates and slab mugs.  This  Saturday we will focus on making animals.

The after school throwing class has been great! The students are catching on quickly.

The adult classes have had a slow start.  I have made some changes to the classes to entice people into joining them.  You can check out the changes here.

The WINE & CLAY CLASS has a discount price--$30 for the first person and $20 for the friend or partner who comes along.  This Friday could be the day that you will come to the studio to make some wine cups out of clay while sipping a fine California cabernet sauvignon!

I have been enjoying sharing my space during OPEN STUDIO time.  Drop-ins are welcome.

The studio will be closed from February 15 to February 21.  I will be in California visiting with my grandchildren!

We form clay into a pot,
but it is the emptiness inside
that makes the vessel useful.
